Announcements and Calendar for the Week of April 18

Church World Service - During our current Peacemakers unit, the church school children will be putting their offering towards the Church World Service Blankets and Tools of Hope program. The children will be watching a short, inspiring video on CWS this morning.

The Daily Bread Table in the Great Room needs a few more food items before the end of the month. Peanut butter, jelly and tuna fish are always in need. Thank you for your generosity.

Junior Choir Fieldtrip - Twelve JC singers will be heading to Overlook Masonic Retirement Home tomorrow for a mini-concert at the skilled nursing unit. We will meet at the church at 1:00, warm-up, head to Charlton, sing, visit, stop at Sweet Evalina's for ice cream, and return to the church about 5:15-5:30 p.m.

THE GROUNDS COMMITTEE would like to request that you do not park on the front lawn. Please try to keep the tires of your vehicle on the asphalt or gravel, not on the grass.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR May Share Articles in the church office by Tuesday, April 20th!

A NOTE ROM JENNIFER JOHN: On behalf of the Junior Youth Group I would like to thank those youth who turned out to make pillows for Haiti! Working together, Brittany, Alena, Emily, Robbie, Elijah, Diane Peterson, and myself were able to assemble roughly 30 pillow kits, enjoy fellowship and pizza, too! A special thank you to Diane for gathering all of the supplies necessary for this wonderful project. Debbie Pallato-Fontaine will be carrying these kits with her when she travels to Haiti and will distribute them to children orphaned by the devastating earthquake earlier this year. Our prayers and well wishes are included! A special thank you to everyone in the congregation who baked items for the Junior Youth Group Bake Sale held in conjunction with the Rummage Sale! Through good faith donations only, we were able to collect approximately $151.00 which we happily donated to Women's Fellowship. This appears to be an activity that is here to stay! We now have customers come in looking for their favorite Hill Church goodies! Cheryl Swenson's peanut butter bars are ever so popular!!! Thank you, too, to our faithful youth for volunteering their time not only to help with the bake sale, but to assist with rummage sale tasks as well: Trevor, Brittany, Emily, Robbie and Elijah.

ORDINATION SERVICE FOR DEBBIE PALLATTO-FONTAINE
I would like to personally invite my church family to my ordination on Sunday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m. here in the sanctuary. As you know, I have been called to be the new Minister of Mission at the Gilead Congregational Church, UCC in Hebron. I have officially started my duties there and am very excited about this ministry; one that is dear to my heart. However, this is also a bittersweet time for me. I have been a member of this church for the last 20 years – raising a family, serving the church in myriad ways, and working as a Commissioned Minister.
I would like to thank all of you for your support and guidance as I have pursued ordained ministry in the United Church of Christ. As one friend recently said to me, "It is time for me to reap the fruits of my work."
In honor of the mission and outreach theme of the ceremony, please consider bringing a nonperishable food item for "Daily Bread." A basket will be in the narthex for your donations. Thank you so much and I hope to see you on the 25th! A reception will follow the ceremony in the Great Room.

CHURCH SCHOOL NEWS
The church school will begin the "Peacemakers" unit this morning. Throughout the Bible we read stories of people who tried to bring peace and justice to all of God’s people. Their stories inspire us and help us learn how to be peacemakers today. Over the coming weeks the children will focus on being peacemakers in their own homes, schools and communities.
This Morning’s Rotation Schedule: Art - Pre-K/Kinder/Grade 1 - Ellie Donahue Storytelling –– Grades 2 & 3 –– Jennifer John Cooking –– Grades 4 & 5 –– Erin & Bobby Fisher Music & Movement –– Grades 6/7/8 –– Donna Dufresne

The Junior Choir will present a mini-concert on Monday, April 19th to the residents of Overlook Masonic Health Center. Singers should meet at the church at 1:00 p.m. Our arrival time back at the church should be between 5:15 & 5:30 p.m.

THE APRIL MEETING of the Women’s Fellowship is traditionally our Guest Day, so plan to come and greet our friends from neighboring churches! The meeting will be at 2:00 p.m. (Note the time!) on Wednesday, April 14th . The program will be Deb Kirk and some of our high schoolers talking about Silver Lake. We have this worthwhile Conference Camp in our budget so come and find out why our youth and others enjoy spending time there!

The Women’s Fellowship would also like to thank everyone who contributed to our spring rummage sale in any way. Everyone’s help is what makes these sales so successful. A special thank you to the Junior Youth Group for holding another bake sale during the rummage sale!

PROGRESSIVE DINNER
The time to sign up is NOW for Fellowship and Fun!
The Deacons are supporting a Progressive Dinner on April 17th. We need to know ahead of time how many guests to plan on. Please sign up in the Great Room. You don’t want to miss out on all the fun. There will be a $10 per person cost to help defray the expense of the meal payable that night. If you have questions please see Cheryl Swenson.

THE GROUNDS COMMITTEE would like to request that you do not park on the front lawn. Please try to keep the tires of your vehicle on the asphalt or gravel, not on the grass.
