Announcements and Calendar for the Week of Feb. 13, 2011
This Morning’s Church School: The children will begin a new unit this morning entitled, Burning Bush & Other Images Of God.
Who is God? What is God like? Throughout history people have expressed the reality of God through images and metaphor. Children will explore some of the many images of God in the Bible and discover how those images can help us know God.
“Mixing It Up With Harry Potter” –– Junior Youth Group LOCK-IN – (grades 5-8) - will be held this coming weekend, Friday, February 18th from 7:00 p.m through Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Please sign up today with Mrs. Donahue! Enter the magical world of Hogwarts! What house will you be assigned by the Sorting Hat? Wonderful things will unfold in your Hogwart classes! We’’ll explore friendship, loyalty, courage, and choosing the right path in difficult times. We’’ll mix it up a bit with food, fun and games. Then we’ll wind down for our midnight worship service by candlelight. Please remember to bring a box of cereal for Daily Bread, to help our friends in need.
LOCK-IN Planning Team –– there will be a meeting after church this morning in the downstairs, center classroom.
Junior Choir Rehearsal - This morning’s rehearsal will be led by a “special guest”, while Mrs. D attends a LOCK-IN planning meeting.
PROGRESSIVE DINNER: Sign up taking place now for the Fellowship/Progressive Dinner on March 12. We are inviting Confirmands and older youth to join us. There is a table in the Harrison Hall to sign up and pay the $10 per person cost.
Please see one of the Deacons if you have any questions.
SOUPER SUCCESS! Thank you to all who made donations for local hunger relief through the SOUPER BOWL OF CARING. Last week we collected $392.19 at our two churches for the Daily Bread Pantry in Putnam. The soup kettle remains in the church office for those who would still like to make a contribution. Note: Please make checks payable to “Senior High Youth Group” so we can send one check to Daily Bread. Thank you for your support!
SAVE THE DATE FOR THE 8TH ANNUAL ITALIAN DINNER! Our Youth Group will be serving a delicious meal on Saturday, February 26 at the Hill Church beginning at 5:30 PM. Tickets are available from Charlie Bottieri and youth group members. Invite some friends and reserve a table—this is a great way to introduce newcomers to our church! You may also call the Hill Church office at 860-928-7405 to make your reservation. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children up to age 12.
BOSTON URBAN OUTREACH TRIP is planned for March 4-6. All senior high youth and adults who would like to put faith in action doing service work at downtown soup kitchens should join us for a planning meeting TONIGHT (Sunday, February 13) at 7 PM at East Woodstock. Registration forms are available online at www.hillhurch.org
CONCERT AT EAST WOODSTOCK TODAY at 3:00 p.m.! Performing will be Pomfret School’s The Griff Tones and Chorus. Please come and enjoy the wonderful music and support these students. All proceeds will help fund their trip to Bolivia in March.
NEW WOMEN’S GROUP FORMING: A thirteen week group for women will be starting on Wednesday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. We will be studying the book “What Happens When Women Pray.” See Beth Foote if you have any questions, or call her at 860-928-3314.
WANTED: ONE “TECHIE”
As I explore the things needing the attention of the church publicist, it is becoming woefully apparent to me that my limited knowledge of technical stuff is slowing me/us down:( I am looking for someone with an advanced working knowledge of computers, video cameras, projection and anything else that would help get me/US into the latest century! Work would be on a needs basis. Could you volunteer some time to the church? If so contact Susan Waldron, 860-923-2887 or swaldron01@snet.net
