Announcements and Calendar for the Week of July 1, 2012

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL AND CHILD CARE:

Beginning this morning and continuing throughout the month of July, there will be Sunday School group lessons downstairs for children in grades Pre-K through 8. Lessons will consist of a story and a snack as well as an activity suited to the lesson - all very informal in nature. The nursery will be open and staffed for newborns and toddlers. Youth may alternately enjoy worship in the sanctuary with their families if so inclined.

JYG & SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNOUNCE TRIP TO SIGHT & SOUND THEATRE IN PENNSYLVANIA

The Junior Youth Group in conjunction with the Sunday School is excited to announce that we are sponsoring an overnight youth trip to Sight & Sound Theatre in Strasburg, PA, in the heart of Lancaster County, to see an amazing production of none other than.....Jonah.....on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 returning home Thursday, August 9th. The full cost of tickets to the show are being offered for FREE to Junior Youth Group members, children who just finished grades 5 - 8. Additionally, the JYG would like to cover HALF the cost for Sunday School youth in younger grades as well as for our dedicated JYG recent alumni. Youth under the age of 11 years MUST have a parent accompany them. Adult chaperons are needed to drive, and of course, chaperon! This would be a wonderful opportunity for fun, adventure, and fellowship, and the PERFECT way to top off our study of Jonah!! While we realize that not everyone will be able to join us due to the spontaneous nature of this trip and any previously scheduled vacation plans, we simply could not pass on such an exciting opportunity for our youth! Please contact Jennifer John for more information or to find out how YOU can help! Deadline to register is next Sunday, July 8th. More information will be made available on the church website and in the summer edition of SHARE. Email:rj3j@charter.net or phone 860-974-3489!
NEWS FROM THE FCCW SEARCH COMMITTEE: The Local Church Profile for the Hill Church is finished. A copy is hanging on the kiosk in Harrison Hall, and it can also be viewed as a link from our website (hillchurch.org). We on the Search Committee extend a huge “thank you” to everyone who helped us with this project. The posting for our minister position is now on the UCC website, and we are already receiving many Ministerial Profiles. We continue to meet weekly to review them. This is a very busy, intensive, and exciting process, and we look forward to keeping everyone informed of our progress through the summer. Blessings to everyone.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS -- Youth are collecting gently used children’s books for two events this summer. Our Teens will take books to NYE to create a Literacy Labyrinth. Compassion Campers will also be reading buddies at the summer children’s program at TEEG on July 23. Help us share the joy of reading by leaving your donations in the specially marked “Book Bin” at church. GIFT CARD PROGRAM OFF TO A GREAT START!! We are working with United Scrip to develop an ongoing fund raiser for the church using gift cards. Instead of spending cash in stores, you would use your prepaid cards to purchase items you are already planning to buy. A percentage of the value of your card is given to the church right up front. There is NO extra cost to you beyond the value of your card. Your spending habits don’t change but the church benefits from usage of these cards. There is nothing to lose and everything for the church to gain! Please check out the display after church. Thank you to everyone who already ordered cards! Announcements and Calendar for the Week of June 3, 2012

WE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME to The Rev. Dr. Bruce Johnson. He is retired from the First Congregational Church of Coventry after serving there for 37 years. He will be our Interim Pastor until the search process is completed, and will be holding office hours on Thursday mornings. Please look for his biography and a welcoming message from him in the June issue of SHARE. WE ALSO WELCOME Carl Asikanen, Program Director for TEEG. Our church is beginning a new relationship as part of our local outreach, with TEEG, and he will be explaining the services that are offered to people in our area & how we, as a congregation of “givers,” can plug into this vital agency with our time & talents. There will be a Second Hour, immediately following the service for individuals to ask specific questions & get answers about services vital to many of our area neighbors. Diane Peterson & Brittany LaFleur will be coordinating our church’s response when a need arises & we are called on to respond with “person” power or specific items as our relationship with TEEG goes forward. THANKS AGAIN, TO TOM & LYNN SINGLETON FOR COORDINATING OUR PREVIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH COVENANT TO CARE!!!! CHRISTMAS ON THE HILL meeting will take place after church next Sunday, June 10. Please come if you worked last year or are able to work the Fair this year! B&B SIGN UP SHEET IN HARRISON HALL! Reservations are already coming in for the weekend of Oct. 12 & 13.
