BACK BAY MISSION UPDATE
Back Bay Mission Board President the Rev. David Taylor (said today that more word on the condition of the Mission and its staff has come in from the Executive Director, Shari Prestemon. All of the personnel who have been located have been found safe, though one family reported being rescued. Shari Prestemon has not yet communicated with all the staff and local volunteers.
The main administration building and work camp dormitories still stand, but have suffered water damage from flooding of about 5 feet in depth. There has not yet been time to perform a thorough assessment of the buildings' safety or estimate the needed time to repair them. The surrounding neighborhood, which lies on a peninsula between the Gulf shoreline and the Back Bay of Biloxi, has suffered extensive destruction.
