Calendar and Announcements for the Week of October 24
THOUGHTS ABOUT COFFEE HOUR:
Coffee hour is a wonderful opportunity for our church family to gather following worship; for many people it may be the only chance we get to have a few minutes to socialize and catch up with one another.
The challenge is to find hosts. We have the following suggestion. Let's agree to have very simple coffee hours. We don't want people to hesitate to host coffee hours because it is a daunting task. Coffee and tea are provided by the church. Harold Bishop and Woodstock Orchards provide cider. Beyond that, not much is necessary or called for. We can feed our spirits without feeding our bodies. Let's encourage more people to be hosts by agreeing that we don't need lavish refreshments. We want to offer hospitality and a cup of coffee so our congregation can spend time together following worship. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to host coffee hour. -The Hospitality Committee
CHRISTMAS ON THE HILL, November 20, 2010: If you have an item that might not be the hottest item for bidders in the Silent Auction, is nearly new or un-used consider giving it to UNIQUE BOUTIQUE Call Diane Bradley, 974-2769 with your donation ideas.
Remember that we know the ORNAMENT MAKERS OF AMERICA and know that they will have a variety of their hand crafted ornaments for sale at the FAIR. You will also be able to purchase RADA knives & support SERRV, specializing in hand crafts from third world countries.
FOSTER HOME FOR DOG NEEDED FOR 3 - 6 MONTHS: A client of Diane Bradley’s, who is currently hospitalized and is then going to be in a rehabilitation environment for 3 - 6 months, is in urgent need of a foster home for Jacob, her 12-year-old yellow Lab during this time. Jacob is house trained, leash trained, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is currently in a pound and is very lonely. If you are interested in helping Jacob and his owner, please see Diane Bradley or call her at 860-942-4035.
CHURCH YARD CLEANUP Please bring your rake and join Bruce Lyman on the grounds of the church for the annual leaf removal and pruning marathon on Saturday, October 30th, 9:30 to noon. He needs three helpers to accomplish the job. Speak with Sam at Coffee Hour, or call 860.928.9187 to sign on. Coffee and scones for workers! [Canceled in case of rain.]
COVENANT TO CARE THANKSGIVING BASKETS: CTC has agreed to provide Thanksgiving food baskets to ten needy families living in North East Connecticut. A suggested menu is provided below and is also posted on the kiosk along with a sign-up sheet. The idea is to “sponsor” a complete basket or pair up with someone to share a complete basket. If you hate to grocery shop, gift cards from Walmart or Stop & Shop, or cash donations are more than acceptable. We will convert cash donations into gift cards. If you would like an official Hill Church receipt for your donation, please attach your name to the donation. Cash and gift cards (made out to FCCW with Thanksgiving baskets written in the memo section) can be left at the Church office in the middle drawer of Ellen’s desk. Food donations should be left in the kitchen on Sunday, Nov. 21, which is the day after Christmas on the Hill. Any surplus donations will be brought to Daily Bread in Putnam, or TEEG in Thompson. Thank you for your contribution,
