POMFRET SCHOOL RESPONDING TO KATRINA VICTIMS
We have received news that the Pomfret School is embarking on a Katrina victims relief project. They will be collecting clean, gently used clothing and books, and delivering them in trucks to Otis Airforce Base where 2,500 hurricane survivors are being evacuated. Susan McKechnie has offered to help transport donations from our church to the Pomfret School. If you'd like to participate, here's the information sent to incoming Pomfret students today...
Dear Pomfret Students and Families,
Our hearts go out to all the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In response to the disaster, Pomfret School will be holding a clothing drive, a book drive, and a fund-raising effort. The clothes and books we collect will go to the 2,500 hurricane survivors that are being evacuated to the Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The money we raise will go to American Red Cross.
SO...TODAY as you pack to come to Pomfret tomorrow, if you have time, please include a bag of clothes (including shoes and clothes for the Massachusetts climate!) and any books you can give!
We will collect all items and donations to the Red Cross near the Registration Tent on Wednesday, and in our Dining Hall Common Room over the coming week(s). This drive will be open to the larger Pomfret Community, including other schools in the area!
We will need everyone's donations, as well as much help to sort, load, and send what we collect. We know that together we can make a difference!
On Behalf of the whole Pomfret Community...Thank YOU!!
Ms. Abby Jones, Community Service Coordinator 936-0499 or 963-6175
